I have had a pain on lower right side rib cage and radiates around the
back. Also, sometimes it radiates up the right side toward my chest. I
have had it for 18 months. Have had ultra sounds and 2 Hida Scans done
with negative results. Sometimes I can hardly stand the pain and is
severely affecting my life. Surgeons won’t agree to operate on the
gallbladder because nothing is showing up on tests. Can there be
problems with the gallbladder or gallbladder stones without it showing
up on utrasounds or hida scans? Can you give me any suggestions on
where I can go next.Thanks.

I need to add something here. It is very possible to have something wrong
with the gallbladder (or liver) and not have it picked up on the scans. While
the scans will show problems, problems are missed by these types of scans all
the time. It is classic to have some type of medical test performed, to have
the result negative, and to then have the medical establishment assume because
they did not see it that no problem exists. The “arrogant ignorance” of science.
Jenny’s symptoms are classic of liver/gallbladder dysfunction. This does not
mean that this is the problem but it must not be discounted on the basis of the
below tests. The fact that the surgeons will not operate based on the results
may be a blessing in disguise. Further testing may be in order. However, many
people have had relief from similar situations by doing liver/gallbladder detox
and support. It is unlikely that this would be contraindicated. What do the
doctors think the problem is since all these tests have come out negative?

Hi Jenny,
I have had ultrasound and Hida Scan, too. Although you probably can’t be 100%
certain, based on the explanations that I got from my doctor and from the nurse
& technician who administered the tests, it seems that having both of these
would pick up any gallbladder problems. Since you’ve had multiple tests, you
should feel fairly confident that your problem is something else. I don’t have
any stones, just sludge, and even that was picked up on the ultrasound.
What is your doctor recommending you do at this point? Have you had other
tests, such as X-rays, done? Have you considered seeing a chiropractor? They are
amazingly good at diagnosing and correcting all kinds of problems. I recently
learned that they can even treat an ear infection simply with an adjustment –
no antibiotics necessary.
BTW, I’m curious as to how you got your insurance company to pay for a second
Hida Scan. When my doctor recommended surgery, I told him that I’d prefer to
first try to treat the problem myself, and that I’d like to get another Hida
Scan after 6 months or a year to see if there was any improvement. His response
was that my insurance company would be unlikely to pay for another Hida Scan.
