I know we’re getting a little farther off topic here, but I just wanted to
mention somethign that I heard this past week. There’s a guy who is suing
Coca-Cola because he gained 200# and developed diabetes after years of
drinking Cokes and eating candy bars.
Talk about a lack of taking personal responsibility!!!!!

Okay, if you think it’s not off-topic I’ll go along with that.
on lists before that were so very rigid about staying on topid and I guess
I’m overly conscious of figuring out what the boundaries are here.
I agree, Vince - I’d rather have my health as well. I actually had somewhat
of an opportunity to sue a number of years ago. At least I had someone
suggest to me that I did. It was about six months after my car accident and
I was walking through a parking lot and there had been an oil spill and I
fell. My right leg was still healing from the car accident (I’d shattered
the kneecap and the leg wasn’t yet bending more than 35 degrees) and when I
went down I looked around to see my right foot behind me! After that I had
someone tell me that I should sue the storeowner because of the oil spill in
the parking lot! But my only concern was that there wasn’t additional
damage done. In that case, actually, it did me some good because it helped
to rapidly increase the bend in my leg!
Anyway, the point was that some people thought I could have sued for “pain
and suffering” even though there wasn’t any physical damage to my leg. But
who ever said that life should be without pain and suffering?? To me it was
as much my own fault for not paying attention to the fact that there was oil
on the ground as it was the storeowner’s for not seeing it and getting it
cleaned up. This is life - sometimes bad things happen. I think the world
would be a better place if people stopped expecting someone else to pay for
the unpleasantness in life. Of course I’m not suggesting that there’s NEVER
a legitimate occasion for a lawsuit - just that it’s gotten way out of hand.
just my thoughts,
Rachel

The difference being, that smoking was classified as glamorous and the thing
to do. It was not given out until, late 60’s how damaging smoking was for you
- people were given cigarettes and almost forced to smoke during the war
because it was a known sedative and calmer - I would personally like to sue
the tobacco companies for not telling me how harmful smoking was prior to me
starting to smoke in 1961, all I was told was ‘it is a waste of money’ not
how it could/would cause heart disease - especially when they had all the
information in a report that they kept locked up and away from the public.
Just my opinion of course.
