pancreatitis

I found out today that they think I have pancreatitis, probably caused by
leaving my sludgy gallbladder in. Has anyone else in this group had
pancreatitis? What is the treatment and outcome?
Thanks,
Ann

I have to wonder if this is what I have and not just a Gall Bladder
problem. Since my blood sugar is screwy. What test would they have to
run on me to tell the difference, can the ultrasound they have
ordered for my digestive system show this. The test will cover the
liver, gall bladder, and pancreas. Can the Gall bladder cause the
pancreatitis or vice versa. Can the pancreatitis screw up my blood
sugar, and will it get better when my gall bladder is better.

    Hello Lisa,
It feels good to be able to answer someone’s question and help them
instead of just begging for help for myself.
First let me assure you that you do NOT have acute pancreatitis.
You’d be literally doubled over in pain, panting like a dog because
you can’t breath deeply at all, and barely able to speak. But, is
something wrong with your pancreas? I don’t know. As for the sugar
levels, I don’t know because they never checked mine as far as I know
(I was “nothing by mouth” and on IV fluids and I don’t have a history
of diabetes so I guess they didn’t check the sugar).
The tests they did on me were: the first day - an ultra sound, and a
blood test. They then did the blood test daily. The blood test
confirmed the pancreatitis. They check for 2 different #’s for things
    called Amalaise (I *think* that’s the way it’s spelled — it’s
pronounced Am-uh-lays) and Lipase (pronounced Lie-pays). They

told me a couple of days into it that it was really the Lipase they
were keeping a closer watch on. The “normal” range for each
hopspital\facility can be different, but they wanted my Lipase # to be
down to 210 or less before they’d let me eat. Last Saturday (a week
ago yesterday) my Lipase was 3,300. But after proper treatment, it
dropped drastically each day, until the last couple of days which took
longer to get on down. The next day (Sunday) it was 1,700. Mon.,
1,023. Tue., 523. But ….. Wed. it only came from 523 the day
before, down to 459. That was the day I signed the AMA (against
medical advice) form and came home to Tennessee. (I “conveniently”
left that part out until now so y’all won’t think I’m a total nut. I
promise, I’m not. It’s about money).
Hope I’ve helped, and I wish you the best.

Let me assure you many people on this list have done exactly that.
    How are you doing?

    Hello,
Haven’t posted in awhile-have been feeling better, but now I’m
getting pain in my left side again. I’ve been reading posts about
people worried about getting pancreatitis from their gall bladder
problems, and frankly, I am too. What can one do if they do have
pancreatitis? Is it a permanent condition? How serious is it?
    Thanks for any input, Tandra

What do you attribute the pain on the left side to and why? Where
exactly is the left side pain?
